Program Applications
The application period is twice a year in October/November and March/April timeframes.
The Teacher in Residence (TIR) program is a fast-track into teaching. TIR's earn both a bachelor's degree and initial teaching licensure in the area of Elementary education, Special Education: K-12 General Curriculum or Special Education: K-12 Adapted Curriculum. The TIR program is a partnership between ODU and local school divisions, through shared funding from the school divisions with grant support from the Virginia Department of Education and is based on the needs of the partnering school district.

- Waiver of licensure fees is provided.
- Professional development and on-going support inside and outside of the classroom is provided by clinical resident coaches and ODU faculty for the preparation year and the three years of service in the classroom.

The results of this partnership have positively impacted our school division. The School Board of the City of Norfolk has hired many teacher candidates who completed this program, and currently, these teachers have become teacher leaders and are servicing to influence teaching and learning in our schools.
