New to the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department for the 2020-2021 academic year is the ODU Driving Simulator, which will be used to facilitate the teaching and research of Transportation Engineering. Transportation Engineering is one of the diverse disciplines within Civil and Environmental Engineering field focused on the planning, design, build, operation, and maintenance of the infrastructure needed by countries to promote à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã growth and to improve quality of life. The ODU driving simulator has a single seat cab with three degrees of freedom motion system, virtual dash and center stack displays, and a library of road infrastructure, traffic signal control, advanced driver-assistance systems, and various weather effects. The high fidelity driving simulator provides a safe virtual testbed that closely replicates the real-world driving environment and allows for assessing the design and operations of transportation facilities as well as testing various automated and manual vehicle control systems.
