Junqing Wang, Zizheng Yan and Qingwen Pu, doctoral students in the Batten College of Engineering and Technology, received the RSS 2024 Best Student Paper Award–the only award granted to a student-led paper–at the (RSS) Conference in Lexington, Kentucky, in October.

Hong Yang, associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and graduate program director of the Modeling and Simulation Engineering (MSIM) program, advised the students in development of the research and attended the conference along with Wang and Yan, Ph.D. students in the MSIM program,

The paper, A Simulation Study on Traffic Conflict Risk under Shockwave Propagation at Signalized Intersection, was authored by Wang, Yan and Qingwen Pu, a doctoral student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Kun Xie, associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Professor Yuan Zhu, Wang, Yan and Pu’s former advisor at Inner Mongolia University, also helped guide the students in developing their research.

The authors have been invited to submit their paper to a special journal issue organized by the 2024 RSS Conference.
