The Community Music Division of Old à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã University (established in 1984 as the Community Music Academy) offers the finest level of private music instruction, classes, and ensembles to Hampton Roads residents. We welcome, instruct, and encourage people of all ages and abilities. Our varied staff holds degrees in music and specializes in the instruments that they teach. Most are active performers or teachers in the Hampton Roads community and beyond, and all are encouraged to join and participate in national music organizations. The CMD faculty has nearly 30 instructors and faculty members and offers private and group instruction in most instruments and voice.

Lessons are taught on the Norfolk campus in the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts, 49th Street and Elkhorn Avenue. Students may choose to participate in Community Music Division recitals held in the Chandler Recital Hall at the end of each semester. Our pianists will perform on one of the University's nine-foot Steinway concert grand pianos at recital time, or they may use the new grand piano in our Choral room for the National Piano Guild Auditions sponsored by our center on our campus in June.

Our Opera for Everyone class, designed for and especially popular with senior adults and couples, meets in the Ludwig Diehn Library and includes special VIP parking. Curriculum follows the current Virginia Opera season. Students enjoy meeting a variety of guest performers and may visit the Virginia Opera with backstage passes. The class meets weekly for 12 weeks and is offered in the fall and spring.

We are delighted to send musicians to perform for public and private schools, and we have a large network of teachers and students to refer for weddings, church services, and other special events. Please contact us if you have further questions. We look forward to serving your musical needs!
