Engineering runs deep in Abby Buck’s family. She is set to become a third-generation engineer, following in the footsteps of her father and both grandfathers:
- Frank Buck– B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, 1951, Drexel University
- Gary Quinn– B.S. in Electrical Engineering, 1975, Drexel University
- Joseph Buck– B.S. in Electrical Engineering, 1988, Drexel University
While honoring her family’s legacy, Buck chose to forge her own path by pursuing civil engineering atOld ֱ University—a place that, in her words, “felt like a true community.”
Buck’s decision to attend ODU was driven by the university’s welcoming atmosphere and the opportunities it offered:

During her time at ODU, she:
- Secured an internship withHRSD, gaining hands-on experience inwater resource management
- Became actively involved in:
- ASCE(American Society of Civil Engineers)
- Chi Epsilon(Civil Engineering Honor Society)
- Earned theCEEVC William Boone Scholarship(Fall 2024)
After graduation, Abby will begin working as awater resource engineerfor , a renowned global company.
