A record number of donors participated in Old à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã University's 2021 Day of Giving, in which students, alumni and friends of the University and others are asked to give generously over a 24-hour period.
The giving period on March 16 was supported by 1,183 donors who contributed $116,371. The previous record for donors was 738 in 2019. Donations came from as far away as the state of Washington, California, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Florida.
"Give2ODU Day is a celebration of the ODU community," said Harold Williams, director of annual giving. "I couldn't be prouder of Monarch Nation and can't thank them enough for again making an impact."
Much of the money raised during the online campaign is used to provide scholarships. For many students, as little as $1,000 can close the gap between resources they have and the cost of going to school.
The funds also will help hire high-quality faculty, create endowments to help top students attend ODU and provide needed equipment.
ODU used email, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn to promote the effort.
