Winner of the 2023 Best in Show: Bria Tyler and The Braided Majesty, oil on canvas, 2023
The Juried Student Exhibition staged in the Gordon Galleries is a major event in the academic life of the Art Department. A juror is invited to select entries to the exhibition and the choices they make reflect their own professional experience, judgment and taste. The juror is usually a renowned artist, a museum curator or an owner of a professional gallery, often with links to the Department and the University. As well as selecting the submissions, the juror awards a distinction of Best in Show to a student who then goes on to have a solo show in the Vestibule 102 in the Perry Glass Art Studio, of the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk. All other works in the exhibition are also considered for the Dean's Selection Exhibition, which goes on view for one year in the Dean's office suite (BAL 9th Floor) following the Juried Student Exhibition.
This exhibition is open to all students taking classes in the Art Department during the submission period.
