Dear all,
I am excited to announce that the asynchronous ARA 212 course will be available for registration in Summer 2025. This course is open to Web 2, 5, and 7 students.
ARA 212 is a continuation of the ARA 111 asynchronous course. However, please note that this is an intensive class designed to be completed in just one month starting on May 19th and ending on June 28th. We will resume using the textbook introduced at the end of ARA 111 and cover approximately seven chapters by the end of the term.
The foundational letters, vocabulary, and greetings introduced inÌýAlif BaaÌýwill serve as a base for ARA 212. Over the course of the month, you will deepen your knowledge of Arabic through weekly homework assignments that include additional phrases, grammatical structures, and cultural topics.

Al-Kitaab fii TacallumÌý al-Ìý c´¡°ù²¹²ú¾±²â²â²¹Ìý, Part I (3rdÌýedition) by Brustad, Al-Batal & Al-Tonsi.

Arabic classes and Minor 2025
Beginning Arabic classes are offered in Spring 2025 to start your journey in Arabic. ARA111 (Async/F2F) is a fun and easy 6 credit class, that introduces students to the sounds and the writing system of Arabic. In addition to basic greetings and communication phases, that can be helpful for traveling, business, or as a first step for the Arabic minor.Ìý
A minor in Arabic introduces students to the Arab world through learning the Arabic language. Arabic classes at ODU allow the students to explore authentic Arabic texts dealing with Middle Eastern literature, history, media, and politics of the region through the language spoken by its peoples. Starting from learning the alphabet in the beginner’s classes (Spring, Summer & Fall) to more advanced Arabic classes that introduce the students to the area through authentic texts. Both Modern Standard Arabic and dialect are introduced in these classes to equip the students with adequate linguistic background to use in their careers or academic pursuits.
The beginners and intermediate classes are 6 credits each, while the 300 and 400 level classes are 3 credits. You can start your journey in Arabic as early as this Spring.
